PCM guarantees you control

When working with product content, you need to build a watchtower at the heart of your business so you can anticipate the surprises that come from any one of a multitude of sources and forward them to all your channels. A good Product Content Management system strategy provides order, logic and consistency throughout the entire lifecycle of your company's product materials and turns management from attack and defense into an organized system, without further mismatches or misunderstandings.

What is PCM?

  • Media assets: pictures, videos, logos...
  • Supplier, affiliate, partner and reseller information
  • Product attributes
  • Fees
  • Languages
  • Inventory and warehouse data
  • Brand content
  • Marketing material

Everything in one place for a perfect multichannel experience

What type of PCM should I choose?

A good PCM must cover all phases of gathering, organizing and distributing content within the company, marking a suitable workflow, from manufacturing and logistics to digital marketing or merchandising tasks. The Product Content Management system is the invisible security guard monitoring all sources of information, all content creators and every company distribution channel. That's why the more tasks a PCM covers, the more complete your management experience and the more time and resources you'll save.

What are the disadvantages of a PCM?

Imagine having all your product content in one place… just to discover a new type of centralized chaos. A PCM is responsible for gathering your content in one place, but its organizational functionalities can be more limited if you are a retailer or distributor and you need to manage thousands of technical data sets and references at a steady pace.

Product content management system does not include the specific management of product information, or it does so in a very generalized way, without all the details that any uniform catalog needs: quality analysis and uniformity of SKU's, descriptions, standardized technical references, labels and families, gap correction, combination of data and file formats, multi-language, geographic zone and channel synchronization...

A PCM is not enough and nor does it provide you with the most personalized technology if you are a company or e-commerce business focused on the sale of products, especially in B2B.

PIM: the perfect complement to the PCM

A PCM is great, but not miraculous. It enriches content but doesn't scan its quality or correct errors. Its objectives are so broad that, for a level of product management where you have absolute control, you'll have to combine it with other more specialized software tools, such as a PIM that solves your product information problems and includes specific B2B tools. And all this, in the cloud and in an automated way.

At Sales Layer, we believe that inner harmony is reflected in the external brand image. And we don't say that in the name of any New Age philosophy: figures show that better organization of product information has a direct impact on the quality of traffic and sales and on how users interact, interpret and value their shopping experience and their relationship with your brand.

We understand that your products are your content.

Frequently asked questions

Does Product Content Management system also include a strategy?
Not necessarily. A PCM gives you the necessary technology (or brings together the technologies that already exist in your company) to harmonize all the contents that come from different sources that are directed to several channels. With this you get the tool, but using it effectively and using the most suitable strategy for your situation will depend on the responsible team.

Does a PCM only handle product information?
No: the content management product consists of compiling the supply chain, marketing and sales content, so it's not just product information. If you need a 100% solution focused on perfecting and harmonizing products and catalogues, a PIM does offer organization and distribution specialized in products.

What are the limitations of a PCM if I'm a retailer?
For example, often omni-channel product sales businesses are confronted with huge updates on a regular basis (by launching new collections, change of season, promotions...).In these cases, extra help is needed and one that is always ready to make massive data changes in mass quantities, and one with zero errors or discrepancies in all channels, with a consistent and timely release date.
